All Movement Drill
You can’t always train every movement in every exercise, sometimes not even in every training. But don’t worry, we got you ;) Because of this, we created the all movement drill. Now you can work on your
pull,
push and
knee steps movement in one exercise.
How to do it?
To make it easier, the shooters are numbered from 1 to 3. We are describing from the goalies view.
- The Setup
- You are in the goal, feet on the goal line
- Shooter 1 is standing in front of the goal, in a distance of about seven meters
- Shooter 2 is standing behind shooter 1
- Shooter 3 is standing diagonally to your left, also about 7 meters away from the goal
- Balls are equally distributed to the shooters
- We recommend to place pylons at the different shooting position to help the shooters. The shooting positions can be seen in the video below.
- First Shot
We are looking at it from the goalies view. To make it easier, the goalies are numbered from one to three.
- Shooter 1 walks 2 steps towards you
- Use the straight forward movement to deepen the angle to the striker.
- Shooter 1 will now take the shot
- Second Shot
- Now Shooter 2 will start his run to your right side in a semi circle and try to move around you
- Try to follow Shooter 2 with fast knee steps
- Shooter 2 will take the shot at the shooting position
- Third Shot
- After the shot of Shooter 2 you have to make a big movement to you left side.
- Move to the left side using the push movement. Maybe you’ll not be able to make it full length, so you can add a second push or combine the pull and the push movement together.
- When you arrived at your position, Shooter 3 takes the shot.
And now repeat, repeat and repeat! Try switching sides after 3 to 5 innings
Notice: In the first sequences it is important to tell the shooters to wait until you are in position. We want to focus on proper movements first, then on pushing ourselves to the max.
Summary
We love this exercise, as it combines all movement forms and we still get shot on a couple of times. It replaces simple movement drills and is a challenge to us goalies and to the strikers. When it becomes too easy, take away the pylons to increase the strikers shooting area or switch the different movements. This exercise is also a perfect simulation of in game situations.
